Whether you've known our family for many years or just a short time, you all know us as a family who lives with autism every day. My son, Bailey, was diagnosed with this devestating disorder in July 2005. Every 20 minutes a child is diagnosed with autism, but despite its prevalence, autism receives substantially less funding for research and treatment than much less common disorders.
In 2010, I am running 1000 miles to raise money for autism and Thoughtful House Center for Children. Thoughtful House Center for Children is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization combining the talents of leading clinicians, researchers, and educators working with autism in one dedicated facility, committed to setting new standards of medical care for children affected by childhood developmental disorders. Thoughtful House currently serves families from 48 states and 31 countries, including my own son Bailey, age 7.
So far in 2010, I have run 301 miles and raised $1390 towards my goal of $10,000. My 2010 racing schedule includes:
- Austin Half Marathon on 2/14; 02:05:07
- National Half Marathon on 3/20; 01:55:49
- Harrisonburg 5K Walk/Run for Autism on 3/27
